Guardians Win AL Central Title, Finishing Off Comeback of the Century
The Cleveland Guardians have etched their names in baseball history, coming back from 15 1/2 games behind to win the American League Central title for the second consecutive year. They secured the title with a 9-8 win over the Rangers in a walk-off three-run homer by Brayan Rocchio.
"We don't make things easy on ourselves, but I give our guys a ton of credit," said team president Chris Antonetti. "No matter what the game was, no matter what the score, we found a way."
The Guardians will face the Detroit Tigers in the wild card series, which will be played at Progressive Field in Cleveland. With a 14-3 record in their final 17 games, the Guardians are confident in their ability to overcome any obstacle.
"It's a great opportunity for us to show what we're capable of," said Slade Cecconi. "We're excited to get back to work and see what the next few days bring."
